The drawing tools allow the member to place features or draw on the map. There are three types of tools and feature types: points, polygons, and lines. When adding new map features, consider how each should be represented. As a rule of thumb, features like rooms are represented as polygons, evacuation routes as lines, and single locations (like HVAC units, shut-off valves, or thermostats) as points.

To draw a polygon:

  1. Select Poly next to the Add: area on the top left of the screen.

  2. Once selected, a drop-down of all the layers will be visible.

  3. Select the layer needed to add a polygon to (e.g. Rooms).

  4. After the layer is selected, choose the style in that layer to be added (e.g. Office).

  5. The cursor reform to a crosshair, which allows the member to place the starting location of the polygon by clicking the map.

  6. Continue to click to add points that will shape the polygon.

  7. To complete the polygon, click the starting position when the cursor turns to a hand icon.

  8. Click the Select button to finish the polygon drawing.

To add/edit a point:

  1. Select Point next to the Add: area on the top left of the screen.

  2. Once selected, a drop-down of all the layers will be visible.

  3. Select the layer needed to add a point (e.g. Emergency Equipment).

  4. After the layer is selected, choose the style in that layer to be added (e.g. Fire Department Connection).

  5. The cursor reform to a crosshair, which allows the member to place the point on the map.

  6. Click the map in the location where the point is to be represented.

  7. Click the Select button to finish adding points.

To add/edit a line:

  1. Ensure that the layer where the new feature will be is turned on.

  2. Select Line next to the Add: area on the top left of the screen.

  3. Once selected, a drop-down of all the layers will be visible.

  4. Select the layer needed to add a line to (e.g. Utility Lines).

  5. After the layer is selected, choose the style in that layer to be added (e.g. Power Lines Overhead).

  6. The cursor reform to a crosshair, which allows the member to place the starting location of the line by clicking the map.

  7. Continue to click to add points that will shape the line.

  8. After completed, double click to complete the drawing.

  9. Once finished, click the Select button to get out of edit mode.
